Coat of Arms of Saint Petersburg
| The city of Leningrad has changed names numerous times throughout its history. The city was originally named Saint Petersburg. Then, in 1914, it was renamed to Petrograd (since it was decided that Petersburg sounded too German). In 1924, it was again renamed, this time to Leningrad (in honor of Vladimir Lenin). In 1991, after the collapse of Communism, it was decided to revert back to the city's original name of Saint Petersburg [which is how we'll refer to it from here on out].
